Floortime Atlanta uses the Developmental, Individual-Difference,
Relationship-Based (DIR) model developed by Stanley Greenspan, M.D.
and Serena Wieder, Ph.D. to work with children and their families.
The DIR model is a comprehensive assessment and intervention program
that combines an understanding of:
· The child’s individual sensory strengths and
needs
· The child’s developmental level
· The child’s most important relationships
Engaging Autism and The Child
With Special Needs by Stanley Greenspan and Serena Wieder provide
more information about the DIR model.
"[The
goal is to] mobilize and support the developmental processes . . .
that are so vital to healthy development--sharing attention, self
regulation, engaging with the child, two-way communication, emotional
ideas, and emotional thinking.
"[Y]ou already possess the abilities needed to help your child.
The key is knowing how to harness them."
--Dr. Stanley Greenspan
