Floortime Atlanta uses the Developmental, Individual-Difference, Relationship-Based (DIR) model developed by Stanley Greenspan, M.D. and Serena Wieder, Ph.D. to work with children and their families. The DIR model is a comprehensive assessment and intervention program that combines an understanding of:

The child’s individual sensory strengths and needs
  The child’s developmental level
  The child’s most important relationships

Engaging Autism and The Child With Special Needs by Stanley Greenspan and Serena Wieder provide more information about the DIR model.

"[The goal is to] mobilize and support the developmental processes . . . that are so vital to healthy development--sharing attention, self regulation, engaging with the child, two-way communication, emotional ideas, and emotional thinking.

"[Y]ou already possess the abilities needed to help your child. The key is knowing how to harness them."

--Dr. Stanley Greenspan
