Social Thinking Adolescent Group
A social thinking group for adolescent boys run by Dave Nelson and Jen Bertasi. This is an ongoing group with a closed membership. The typical patterns is five weeks on, three weeks off. Young Adult Transition and Social Networking Group
This group meets weekly during the summer and monthly during the school year. Facilitated by Dave Nelson, LPC and other members of The Community School staff, this group is for individuals looking for social connections and support in transitioning into the larger community. ** YEAR-LONG INTENSIVE DIR®/FLOORTIME™ TRAINING PROGRAM
This year long DIR®/Floortime™ training course provides a wide range of experiences to the clinician wishing to master this approach. Over the course of the year, participants will attend five weekends consisting of lectures, case presentations, live supervision and assessment, and group exercises. Between weekends, participants will have individual consultation hours with a member of Floortime Atlanta and will participate in small group meetings, either on the phone or in person.

DIR® Training Courses For Professionals
This one day workshop presents an introduction to the Developmental, Individual Difference, Relation-Based (DIR®) model, developed by Stanley Greenspan, M.D. & Serena Weider, Ph.D. for working with children with a wide range of developmental delays including Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Workshop participants will learn about the developmental levels that a child must master including Shared Attention, Engagement, Two-way Purposeful Communication, Two-way Problem Solving, Emotional Ideas and Abstract Thinking. They will also learn about Floortime ™, a strategic, goal-oriented, affect-filled way of interacting that encompasses assessment, goal creation, and other tools to help a child initiate and respond at higher developmental levels. This program is appropriate for Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, Occupational, Speech/Language, Physical Therapists, educators and administrators.
Workshop Participants will:
Understand the basics of the DIR® model.
Learn techniques to engage hard to reach children including following the child’s lead, building on the child’s natural interests, opening and closing circles of communication.
Explore different child-focused activities in several categories: structured, semi-structured, and child-directed, and how they can be integrated into various settings.
Understand the importance of collaboration with the child’s family in all aspects of intervention.
Become aware of the importance of self-reflection and self-awareness

Dates of bi-monthly meetings are communicated via an email list. This is a closed group for experienced DIR® practitioners, and for clinicians who are committed to receiving training and mentorship in the DIR® model.
